The Reserve Bank of India conducts the Grade B Officer (Direct Recruitment) 2026 Phase 1 examination on 13 and 14 June 2026 — the General stream sits on Saturday the 13th, and the specialist DEPR (Economic and Policy Research) and DSIM (Statistics and Information Management) streams on Sunday the 14th. The recruitment, notified on 29 April 2026 under Panel Year 2026, covers 60 officer posts, making it one of the most competitive ratios in Indian banking recruitment: tens of thousands of applicants per seat-block for a job widely regarded as the best entry point into India's central bank.
Phase 1 admit card — download checklist
- Open opportunities.rbi.org.in → "Current Vacancies" → "Call Letters".
- Click the Grade B (DR) 2026 Phase 1 call-letter link (hosted on the IBPS registration system).
- Log in with your registration number / roll number and date of birth or password set at application time.
- Download and print the call letter; check centre address, reporting time and shift carefully.
- Carry the printed call letter, the same photo you uploaded, and a valid original photo ID. Read the COVID-era-style instructions panel on the letter — RBI enforces its barred-items list strictly.
What Phase 1 looks like
Phase 1 (General) is a 200-mark, 120-minute objective paper across General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning, with sectional and overall cut-offs and negative marking of one-fourth per wrong answer. It is a screening stage: Phase 1 marks do not count in the final merit, which is built from Phase 2 (300 marks) plus the interview (75 marks). For DEPR and DSIM, Phase 1 itself tests the specialist subject (Economics / Statistics) alongside English, so specialist candidates should treat it as more than a formality.
After Phase 1 — the road to the final list
- Phase 1 result: RBI typically publishes the shortlist within 2–3 weeks of the exam; no official date yet — we will update when it releases.
- Phase 2 (25–26 July 2026): for General, three papers — Economic and Social Issues, English (descriptive), and Finance & Management; ESI and F&M are now half-objective, half-descriptive.
- Interview (75 marks): schedule announced after Phase 2 results; psychometric test and language-medium option included in recent cycles.
- Final selection: Phase 2 + interview merit, followed by medicals and document verification.
Pay and career value
Grade B officers start at a basic pay of ₹78,450 per month on the scale 78450-4050(9)-114900-EB-4050(2)-123000-4650(4)-141600 (16 years), with dearness allowance, local compensatory allowances, and RBI's housing benefit taking gross monthly compensation to roughly ₹1.5 lakh depending on posting city. Career progression runs Grade B → Grade C (AGM) → Grade D (DGM) onwards, and the role carries policy-side exposure no commercial-bank PO role matches.
