Salary & Pay Scale
Salary or pathway breakdown for SSC JE 2026: Junior Engineer Notification, Vacancies, Exam Date, Apply Online
Diploma or Degree holders in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Quantity Surveying & Contracts engineering can apply for the matching JE post. The age limit is 18–32 years on 1 August 2026 (with category-wise relaxation), confirmed in the notification.
What is the SSC JE exam pattern?
Two-tier CBT pattern. Tier-I (qualifying) — 200 marks, 2 hours, three sections: Reasoning (50), General Awareness (50), General Engineering for the chosen discipline (100). Tier-II (merit) — 300 marks, 2 hours, only General Engineering of the chosen discipline. Both tiers have 1/4 negative marking. Final merit is computed on Tier-II score alone.
Which is more difficult — SSC JE or RRB JE?
SSC JE Tier-II is considered more challenging because it tests engineering depth across the full discipline syllabus in a single 300-mark paper. RRB JE has a CBT-1 (general awareness + reasoning + maths + GS) and CBT-2 (mostly general awareness + technical at Class 12 level), where the technical paper is broader but shallower. Engineering specialists usually find SSC JE Tier-II easier; rapid-attempt specialists prefer RRB JE.
What is the salary of an SSC Junior Engineer?
Pay Level 6 (₹35,400 starting basic) under the 7th CPC. In-hand salary is approximately ₹52,000–58,000/month in metro postings (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai). Allowances include DA, HRA (24% X-class cities), Transport Allowance plus department-specific allowances — BRO field allowance for border-area postings, MES technical allowance, CPWD design allowance. Promotion to Assistant Engineer (Level 7) typically happens within 4–5 years.
Which department offers the best SSC JE postings?
CPWD (Central Public Works Department) is the most preferred — Delhi-NCR concentration, residential government colonies, design wing exposure, faster promotion to AE. CWC (Central Water Commission) is next for civil candidates — high-profile river-engineering projects. MES is large but involves field postings to remote army cantonments. BRO offers higher allowances but extreme-terrain postings (Ladakh, Arunachal). Department allotment is by Tier-II merit + preference order.
What is the SSC JE syllabus for the technical paper?
Civil JE technical paper covers Building Materials, Estimating Costing & Valuation, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, Irrigation Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering and RCC Design. Mechanical and Electrical syllabi follow standard B.Tech curriculum. Detailed topic weightage is on our syllabus hub and previous papers archive carries 8+ years of papers.
