What is the UPSC e-Admission Certificate?
The "admit card" for UPSC Civil Services Examination is officially called the e-Admission Certificate. It is the single most important document for entry to the exam centre — without it, no candidate is permitted to enter regardless of identification or registration status. The certificate is a single-page PDF showing the candidate\'s name, photograph (as uploaded during CSE 2026 registration), signature, Roll Number, Registration ID, allotted exam centre address, shift timing, and detailed instructions for the candidate. UPSC does not send hard-copy admit cards by post — download is the only mode.
When will the Prelims 2026 admit card be released?
UPSC has not yet announced the exact e-admission certificate release date for CSE Prelims 2026. Per the Commission\'s standard practice over the past five cycles, the admit card is released approximately 10 to 14 days before the exam date. With Prelims scheduled for Sunday, 24 May 2026 (per the verified CSE 2026 notification), the admit card is expected to be available for download from approximately 10–14 May 2026. As of 4 May 2026, the link is not yet active on upsc.gov.in. Bookmark this page or the official portal for the announcement.
How to download — step by step
Visit upsconline.nic.in and look for the "e-Admit Card for Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026" link on the homepage. Click and enter your Registration ID (from your CSE 2026 Part-I application form) and Date of Birth in DD-MM-YYYY format, plus the displayed CAPTCHA. The PDF downloads immediately. Print on A4 paper with all photos and signatures clearly visible. UPSC recommends keeping at least 3 printed copies — one for the exam centre, one as backup, one for personal records.
Required documents at the centre
Bring the printed admit card (mandatory) along with one valid government-issued photo ID in original — Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence, Passport, Voter ID, or PAN Card. Photocopies are NOT accepted. Reserved-category candidates should also carry their caste / EWS / disability certificates in original. UPSC has progressively tightened entry rules — face authentication and biometric verification are conducted at the centre against the photo on the admit card. Candidates whose face does not match the uploaded photo can be denied entry.
Reporting time and prohibited items
UPSC strictly requires candidates to report at the exam centre 60 minutes before paper start time. Gates close 10 minutes before the paper begins — late arrivals are NOT permitted regardless of reason (traffic, family emergency, transport delay are not accepted). Strictly prohibited items inside the exam hall include all electronic devices (mobile phone, smartwatch, Bluetooth earpiece, calculator), study material, books, slips, geometry box, and any printed material other than the admit card. Pen and water bottle (transparent) are allowed. UPSC does not provide locker facility — leave electronics at home or with a family member.
Discrepancy on admit card — what to do
If the admit card shows wrong photo, name spelling error, wrong centre, or any other discrepancy, contact UPSC immediately at facilitation-upsc@nic.in or call 011-23381125 / 011-23385271. Do not wait until exam day — corrections cannot be made at the centre. UPSC typically issues a corrigendum admit card within 24-48 hours for genuine discrepancies. Centre-change requests are NOT entertained at this stage.
Mains admit card timeline (after Prelims)
The CSE 2026 Mains examination is scheduled for 21 August 2026 (5-day paper window). For candidates who clear Prelims (result expected July 2026), the Mains admit card will follow a similar pattern — released approximately 10-14 days before, so mid-August 2026. The download process is identical: upsconline.nic.in with Registration ID and Date of Birth. Track the parent UPSC CSE 2026 page for stage-by-stage updates.
