What is the Cane Supervisor post, in plain language
A Cane Supervisor (Ganna Paryavekshak) is the field-level government officer who connects the UP Sugarcane Department with sugarcane farmers and local sugar mills. Salary and posting
Cane Supervisor sits on Pay Level 4 of the 7th CPC matrix in the UP State scale, with basic pay ranging from ₹25,500 to ₹81,100. Gross in-hand pay in the early years is around ₹35,000 to ₹40,000 per month after factoring DA (currently roughly 50% of basic in the UP scale), HRA (depends on the posting district), Travel Allowance and the NPS contribution. The role is part of the UP Sugarcane Department and the UP Sugar Industries Department, with field postings concentrated in cane-growing belts of western UP (Meerut, Saharanpur, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli) and central UP (Bareilly, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur).
How competitive is this likely to be
UPSSSC has not published the final shortlist count yet, but with about 26 lakh candidates having appeared in the PET 2025 cohort and 1,182 vacancies on offer, the 15x shortlist will be roughly 17,730 candidates fighting for the Mains. The competition ratio of around 1,500 applicants per post (pre-shortlist) places this recruitment in the same band as the Lekhpal Mains 2026, with the difference that this exam expects deeper subject knowledge in agriculture rather than general aptitude.
What to do between now and 7 July
- Keep your PET 2025 scorecard and OTR credentials handy.
- Re-check your Bachelor\'s degree and CCC certificate. If CCC is pending, complete it before document verification.
- Build a steady study plan on the Mains syllabus. Crop Science and UP GK together carry 45 marks, so weight your preparation accordingly.
- Save the official notification PDF from upsssc.gov.in. Read clauses on reservation, age relaxation and post-allocation in your own time.
- Set a reminder for 28 July (last apply date) and 4 August (correction window end).
For the wider UP recruitment calendar, see our UP state recruitment tracker, and for the PET-2025-based sister cycle running ahead of this one, our UPSSSC Lekhpal page covers the Mains exam scheduled for 21 May 2026.
