These central routes genuinely accept Class 10 (Matriculation) as the minimum qualification.
SSC MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) and Havaldar
Conducted by the Staff Selection Commission, MTS is a Group-C, Pay Level 1 post for general office support across central departments; Havaldar (in CBIC/CBN) is the same exam with an added physical test. Both require a 10th pass. MTS has no skill or physical test (Havaldar adds PET/PST). It is one of the most popular entry points into central service.
SSC GD Constable
The General Duty Constable recruitment fills posts across the central armed police forces (CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB and others). The minimum qualification is a 10th pass, followed by a physical efficiency and standards test (PET/PST) and a medical exam. It is the largest single 10th-pass uniformed recruitment. Railway RRB Group D (Level-1)
The Railway Recruitment Boards fill Level-1 posts (track maintainer, helper, pointsman and similar) with a minimum of 10th pass OR an ITI/equivalent. A 10th pass alone is enough — ITI is an alternative, not a requirement. Selection is via a computer-based test, physical efficiency test and medical.
Indian Army Agniveer (General Duty)
Under the Agnipath scheme, the Agniveer (GD) entry takes 10th-pass candidates (with the required aggregate), aged about 17.5–21 years, and is open to men and women. Be clear-eyed about the structure: it is a four-year engagement, after which up to 25% of a batch may be retained in regular service. Perhaps the most accessible route of all: GDS posts under the Department of Posts require only a 10th pass and have no written exam — selection is purely on your Class 10 marks. The age band is wide (around 18–40), and basic cycling ability is usually required. If your 10th marks are strong, this is a route worth prioritising.
Two popular jobs that are now mostly 12th — read carefully
A lot of "10th-pass jobs" lists are out of date here, so treat these with caution:
- State Police Constable: many large states now require 12th pass, not 10th (for example, several states have moved their constable qualification to 10+2). A few still accept 10th. Real, but not regular salaried jobs — know the difference
These are genuine opportunities, but it is important to frame them honestly: they are not permanent, pay-scale government jobs.
- Anganwadi Worker/Helper: community-level roles under the state ICDS/WCD department. Qualifications vary (often 8th–12th), and they are honorarium-based, not 7th-CPC pay-scale posts. Recruitment is local.
- ASHA Worker: community health volunteers under the state Health/NHM, typically requiring around a 10th pass and preferring local married women. These are honorarium-based, not salaried posts.
- ITI apprenticeships: under the Apprentices Act / NAPS / NATS and various PSU and railway schemes, these combine 8th/10th/12th + often an ITI certificate. They are training contracts with a stipend, lasting roughly 12–24 months — a pipeline into skilled work, not employment in themselves.
