Eligibility & Age Limit
Educational Qualification:
- Educational eligibility — base CUET appearance: Class 12 pass from a recognised board with at least 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EWS per individual university cut-off — actual cut-off is set by each participating university per their programme). Candidates appearing in Class 12 in 2026 can apply provisionally.
- Subject-specific eligibility: Candidates can appear in up to 10 subject combinations — choose from 27 domain subjects (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accountancy, Economics, History, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Computer Science, etc.), 13 language papers, and 1 General Test. Subject choice determines programme eligibility at each participating university.
- Programme-specific cut-offs: Each university sets its own minimum CUET percentile for each UG programme. Top central universities (Delhi University, JNU, BHU, JMI, Hyderabad Central) typically demand 95+ percentile for popular streams (BA Hons Economics, BA Hons English, B.Com Hons). State and deemed universities typically demand 70-90 percentile.
Nationality: Indian citizens, NRI, OCI, PIO and foreign nationals all eligible. Foreign nationals + NRI students may also apply via the separate international student quota offered by individual universities.
Selection Process
- Online Application — Register on cuet.nta.nic.in with mobile and email. Fill the application form with personal, academic and subject-choice details. Select up to 10 subject combinations (domain + language + General Test). Upload photo, signature, Class 10/12 certificate and category certificate. Pay fee based on subject count.
- Computer-Based Test (CBT) — CUET UG runs in a multi-day, multi-shift CBT window. Each subject paper is 45 minutes (Section A — Language) or 60 minutes (Section B — Domain + General Test). Each section: 50 MCQ; candidates attempt 40. +5 correct, -1 wrong, 0 unattempted. Maximum marks per section: 200.
- Provisional Answer Key + Objection — Provisional answer key released within 7-10 days of exam-window closure. Objection window typically 3 days at ₹200 per question with NCERT or recognised reference. Refunded if accepted.
- Result + Percentile Score — Final answer key plus result with subject-wise percentile (not raw marks) released around 30-45 days post-exam. NTA uses percentile normalisation across shifts to handle difficulty variance. Score card downloadable from cuet.nta.nic.in.
- University Application + Counselling — Universities open separate application windows (most use their own portals; some use NTA-sponsored common counselling). Candidates apply to each university individually with CUET score. University-specific merit lists drawn against percentile cut-offs per programme. Document verification + reporting at the allotted university confirms the seat.
Negative marking: -1 mark for each incorrect answer. Unattempted questions carry zero penalty. NTA uses percentile-based normalisation rather than raw-mark comparison across shifts.

CUET UG 2026: Central University Entrance — Notification, Subjects, Apply Online — Analysis & Trends
What is CUET UG and which universities accept it?
CUET UG (Common University Entrance Test — Undergraduate) is the single common entrance test for UG admissions to all central universities in India, conducted annually by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The test was introduced in 2022 to replace the per-university entrance tests previously run by Delhi University, JNU, BHU, Jamia Millia Islamia, Hyderabad Central University and 40+ other central universities. By the 2025 cycle, participation had expanded to 250+ universities — all 45+ central universities, plus participating state universities, deemed universities and private universities. Programmes range from BA Honours (English, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, History) to B.Sc. Honours (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology) to B.Com Honours and BBA / BCA at participating institutions.
CUET UG 2026 — what we know so far
As of 12 May 2026, the NTA has not yet published the official 2026 cycle information bulletin. Per the agency's annual calendar, the notification typically appears in February, the application window runs February-March, and the CBT runs in a multi-day window during May-June. Approximately 13-15 lakh candidates register each cycle. Until the 2026 bulletin drops, all dates on this page are marked tentative and updated within 24 hours of any official confirmation.
Subject structure — 27 domain + 13 language + 1 General Test
CUET UG offers three subject categories: Section IA — Languages (13 languages — Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Assamese, Urdu), Section IB — Additional Languages (20 additional languages including Sanskrit, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean), Section II — Domain Subjects (27 academic subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accountancy, Economics, History, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Computer Science, Anthropology, Environmental Studies, Performing Arts, Sanskrit, Home Science, etc.), and Section III — General Test (current affairs, general knowledge, mental ability, numerical aptitude). Candidates select up to 10 combinations matching their target programme eligibility at participating universities.
Exam pattern — multi-day CBT window
CUET UG runs in a multi-day Computer-Based Test window spread across May-June, with multiple shifts per day. Each subject paper is 45 minutes (Language) or 60 minutes (Domain + General Test) with 50 MCQ in each section. Candidates attempt 40 of 50 in domain and language sections; General Test is 60 questions with 50 to attempt. Marking is +5 for correct, -1 for incorrect, no penalty for unattempted. Maximum marks per section: 200. NTA uses percentile normalisation across shifts to handle difficulty variance — your score card reports percentile, not raw marks.
Preparation strategy
CUET UG syllabus follows the NCERT Class 12 curriculum for each domain subject — there is no separate CUET syllabus document. Anchor your prep on NCERT Class 11 + Class 12 textbooks for each subject you registered for, plus quality reference texts for high-yield domains (RD Sharma for Maths, NCERT Exemplar for Physics/Chemistry/Biology, Class 12 NCERT for Political Science/Economics). The syllabus hub aggregates topic-wise weightage from previous cycles. The General Test rewards consistent newspaper reading (current affairs from previous 12 months) plus Class 8-10 NCERT for Maths and Reasoning. Solve at least 15 full-length mocks at exact CBT timing in the final 60 days using our previous papers archive.
Admission process — university-specific cut-offs
CUET UG result is not centralised admission. Each participating university opens its own application window after the CUET result and draws merit lists against CUET percentile scores per programme. Top central universities — Delhi University (BA Hons Economics, BA Hons English), JNU (BA Hons Languages, BSc), BHU (BA Hons Hindi, BFA), JMI, Hyderabad Central University, Aligarh Muslim University — typically demand 95+ percentile for popular streams. State universities and deemed universities usually demand 70-90 percentile. Each university has separate document verification, counselling rounds and reporting deadlines. Candidates typically apply to 5-10 universities simultaneously to maximise admission chances.
Career pathways after CUET UG
CUET UG admission leads to a 3-4 year undergraduate degree at a participating university. The two most popular post-UG paths are further academics (Master's via CUET PG to CUSAT, BHU PG, central university Master's programmes, plus MBA via CAT or international PG) and government employment (UPSC CSE via UPSC jobs hub, SSC CGL via SSC jobs, IBPS PO via bank jobs, state PCS exams). Engineering UG aspirants typically prefer JEE Main/Advanced over CUET; medical UG aspirants take NEET. CUET UG is most-favoured by Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce and Languages aspirants targeting top-tier central university programmes. Track admit card, answer keys and result hubs through the cycle.
