India Post released the GDS 3rd Merit List on 11 May 2026 at indiapostgdsonline.gov.in. A total of 6,690 candidates are provisionally selected across all 23 postal circles against the parent cycle of 28,636 GDS vacancies. The biggest state intake is Maharashtra at 1,075, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Document verification deadline is 26 May 2026 — 10 days from today. How to check your name in the 3rd Merit List

  1. Open indiapostgdsonline.gov.in on a desktop or laptop. State PDFs run into 50-200 pages so a phone screen is uncomfortable.
  2. Click "Online Engagement Schedule-I 2026" in the menu.
  3. Select "Supplementary List III" (this is the 3rd merit list).
  4. Choose your postal circle / state from the dropdown.
  5. Click the PDF link for your state. The file opens directly in your browser.
  6. Press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) and type your registration number from the original GDS 2026 application.
  7. If your registration number is in the PDF, you are selected. Save / print 3 copies of the page.

No login or password is required. The PDFs are public documents. If your registration number is not in the list, your application is still alive for the 4th merit list (expected June 2026).

Documents to carry to DV — full checklist

Report to your allotted divisional office (the address is printed on the merit list PDF next to your registration number) before 26 May 2026. Carry originals AND two sets of self-attested photocopies of every item below:

  1. Class 10 (Matric) marksheet and passing certificate from a recognised board. The marksheet must clearly show language and Mathematics marks — these were the basis for merit computation.
  2. Date-of-Birth proof — Class 10 certificate alone usually suffices; otherwise birth certificate / school leaving certificate.
  3. Photo identity proof — Aadhaar (preferred), PAN, Voter ID, Passport or Driving Licence. Aadhaar is mandatory for the appointment formalities.
  4. Caste certificate (SC / ST / OBC-NCL / EWS) if applicable, in the prescribed Government of India format. EWS certificate must be valid for the current financial year.
  5. Residence / Domicile certificate from your state government, especially if your post is allotted under a state-specific roster.
  6. Computer / CCC certificate — mandatory from NIELIT or an equivalent recognised institute.
  7. PwD certificate if applicable, with disability percentage and category clearly stated.
  8. 4 to 6 recent passport-size photographs, white background, taken within the last 6 months.
  9. Printout of the merit list page showing your registration number circled.
  10. Printout of the original GDS 2026 application form with reference number, paid fee receipt, and uploaded documents in the order they were submitted.

Salary structure and posting

GDS posts are paid under the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) system, not the standard Pay Level matrix. The actual amount depends on the workload of the branch post office:

PostTRCA Slab (₹/month)Minimum Hours
Branch Postmaster (BPM)₹12,000 to ₹29,3804 to 5 hours daily
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)₹10,000 to ₹24,4704 to 5 hours daily
Dak Sevak (other)₹10,000 to ₹24,4704 to 5 hours daily

Annual increment of 3% on the TRCA slab. Dearness Allowance per the Government of India rate. No HRA, as GDS posts are local and the appointee usually lives in the same postal area. No PF, but a Service Discharge Benefit Scheme (SDBS) contribution is made by India Post. Leave: 20 days paid emergency leave per year for BPM, 10 days for ABPM and Dak Sevak.

If you are not in the 3rd merit list

Your application is still alive. India Post follows a rolling merit-list system within the same recruitment cycle — your original GDS 2026 registration carries over to subsequent rounds automatically. The 4th merit list is expected in June 2026, only if vacancies remain unfilled after the 3rd round DV. No fresh application is needed.

If the 4th merit list also misses you and the cycle closes, the next opportunity is the GDS 2027 notification (expected January-February 2027). Keep your Class 10 marksheet, computer certificate and ID documents updated and ready.

Common mistakes at DV

  • Reporting on the wrong date. The merit list PDF prints the reporting date next to your name. Check it carefully and report on that exact day; the divisional office may not accommodate a later visit.
  • Missing the language and Mathematics marks proof. Some states use a different Class 10 marksheet format. If your marksheet does not explicitly show Mathematics and the local language as separate subjects, carry the school migration certificate or detailed marks statement.
  • Outdated EWS certificate. EWS validity is one financial year. Get a fresh certificate if your old one is from the previous year.
  • Computer certificate not from NIELIT / approved body. Generic computer course certificates may be rejected. Carry a NIELIT CCC or DOEACC equivalent.
  • Photograph mismatch with Aadhaar. Carry passport-size photos that match the photo on your Aadhaar card to avoid biometric disputes.
