Age Limit: 16–19 years as on 01 January 2027 (16.5 to 19.5 years). Date of birth must fall between <strong>02 July 2007 and 01 July 2010</strong> (both dates inclusive).

No age relaxation. The 16.5-19.5 year window is strict for TES officer entries.

Educational Qualification:

• 10+2 TES 56 Officer Cadet: 10+2 (or equivalent) passed with at least 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together (not the overall 10+2 percentage). Candidates appearing in their 12th board exam in 2026 can also apply provisionally, subject to producing the final marksheet at SSB.
• JEE Main 2026 appearance: You must have appeared in JEE (Main) 2026. The Indian Army uses the JEE Main 2026 CRL rank as the shortlisting criterion. The cut-off rank is not pre-declared; it is fixed by the Army after the application window closes, based on the applicant pool and 90 vacancies.
• Marital status: Unmarried male candidates only. Married candidates and women are not eligible for the TES officer entry.
• Citizenship: Indian citizen, or subject of Nepal, or a Person of Indian Origin migrating from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Burma, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, with an eligibility certificate from the Government of India.

Nationality: Indian citizen plus the eligible categories listed above. The candidate must produce a valid citizenship document at SSB.

Selection Process

1. Online application + JEE Main 2026 score — Register on joinindianarmy.nic.in, fill the TES-56 application form between 13 May and 12 June 2026 (12 noon to 12 noon). Enter your JEE Main 2026 application number, roll number and score correctly. Errors in JEE details are the most common reason for rejection at the shortlist stage.
2. Shortlist for SSB — The Army fixes a JEE Main 2026 CRL rank cut-off based on the applicant pool. The cut-off is not announced in advance. Shortlisted candidates receive an email from the Selection Centre with a SSB call letter assigning a centre and reporting date. Past TES cycles have used cut-offs in roughly the 30,000 to 50,000 JEE Main CRL band, but this depends on the pool each year.
3. 5-day SSB interview — Selection Centres: Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Bhopal, Bangalore and Jalandhar. Day-1 is the screening test (OIR + PPDT). Days 2-4 cover Psychology (TAT, WAT, SRT, SD), Group Testing Officer tasks (GD, GPE, PGT, HGT, command task) and the personal Interview. Day-5 is the conference. Recommended candidates proceed to medical the same day or next.
4. Medical examination — Conducted at the Military Hospital attached to the Selection Centre. The candidate is examined under SHAPE-1 medical standards for permanent commission officer entry. Common rejection grounds: refractive eye problems beyond limits, knock knees, flat feet, varicose veins, ENT issues. An Appeal Medical Board is permitted within 42 days at a designated MH.
5. Final merit list — A merit list of the recommended-and-medically-fit candidates is published. The 90 vacancies are filled from the top of this merit list. Reserve list candidates are called if any top-90 candidate withdraws or is found unfit later.
6. Pre-commission training (3 years) — Joining instructions are issued for one of three Cadet Training Wings: CME Pune (Civil and Mechanical engineering specialisations), MCTE Mhow (Telecommunications and Information Technology), or MCEME Secunderabad (Electronics and Mechanical Engineering). 3 years of academic and military training, ending with a B.Tech-equivalent degree.
7. IMA Dehradun (1 year) — The final 1 year of officer training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The stipend during this year is ₹56,100 per month. Cadets commission as Lieutenant on Passing Out Parade.
8. Service obligation — Permanent Commission with a minimum service obligation (currently 10 years) before voluntary retirement is permitted. The TES officer can opt for the technical streams of the Corps of EME, Signals, Engineers and others, subject to merit and Army requirements.

Negative marking: Not applicable. The TES selection runs on JEE Main score + SSB + medical, none of which have negative marking attached to this recruitment. Negative marking on the JEE Main paper itself is governed by NTA.

What is the 10+2 TES Officer Entry, in plain language

The 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme is the only Indian Army officer entry that takes candidates straight out of Class 12 for a permanent commission as Lieutenant. The catch is the long training pipeline: 3 years at a Cadet Training Wing earning a B.Tech-equivalent qualification, then 1 year at IMA Dehradun, before passing out as an officer. That is 4 years of training for a permanent commission, against the NDA route which also gives a permanent commission but starts even younger. TES is built for engineering-minded Class 12 students who want an officer career without first doing a civilian B.Tech.

Application window and key dates

Eligibility, the 60-second version

• Gender + marital status: Unmarried male candidates only. Women and married candidates are not eligible for TES.
• Age: 16.5 to 19.5 years on 1 January 2027. Date of birth must fall between 2 July 2007 and 1 July 2010, both inclusive.
• Academics: Passed 10+2 or equivalent with at least 60% aggregate in PCM (the three subjects together, not the overall 12th percentage).

How to apply for TES-56 online

1. Open joinindianarmy.nic.in.
2. Register on the Officer Entry Apply Online portal if you do not have an account. Use a permanent email and mobile number — these are used for SSB call letters.
3. Open the 10+2 TES Course 56 January 2027 notification and click Apply Online.
4. Fill personal details, parents and guardian details, education and JEE Main 2026 details. Take care with the JEE Main 2026 application number, roll number and CRL rank: wrong entries here are the single biggest cause of rejection.
5. Choose the SSB centre preference where applicable.
6. Submit. There is no application fee. Save and print at least two copies of the submitted application.
7. Lock the form before 12 June 2026, 12:00 noon. Late edits are not allowed once the window closes.

What the 5-day SSB looks like

The Service Selection Board interview is the same 5-day format used for all officer entries (NDA, CDS, TES, TGC, NCC Special Entry). Day-wise outline:

• Day 1 — Screening Test. Officer Intelligence Rating (verbal + non-verbal reasoning) plus a Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT). About half the batch is screened out the same evening.
• Day 2 — Psychology. Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT) and Self Description (SD). Single full-day sitting under timed conditions.
• Day 3 and Day 4 — Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks and Personal Interview. GD, Group Planning Exercise, Progressive Group Tasks, Half Group Tasks, Individual Obstacles, Command Task and Lecturette. Personal Interview happens on either day. Expect 30 to 60 minutes of one-on-one questioning.
• Day 5 — Conference. The full board reviews each candidate. Results are announced the same evening. Recommended candidates report to the Military Hospital for medical the next morning.

Medical standards in one paragraph

The TES medical is under SHAPE-1, which is the strictest officer-entry medical category. Common pitfalls include refractive error beyond ±3.5 D, knock knees, flat feet, varicose veins, recent fractures, ear or dental issues. Get your eyes checked early. If you wear glasses, know your dioptre numbers. The Appeal Medical Board within 42 days at a designated MH is the only recourse if you are declared unfit at the first medical.

Training and career arc

The 4-year training pipeline runs as follows.

On Passing Out Parade at IMA, you commission as a Lieutenant on Pay Level 10. Basic pay starts at ₹56,100 and goes up to ₹1,77,500 on the matrix, plus Military Service Pay (₹15,500) and standard allowances (HRA, transport, kit maintenance, ration). Promotion is time-bound up to a point: Captain after 2 years, Major after 6 years, with higher ranks based on time-scale and selection boards.

Documents to carry to SSB

1. Self-attested printout of the online application with roll number visible.
2. Original Class 10 and 12 certificates and marksheets, plus two self-attested photocopies of each.
3. Valid photo ID in original (Aadhaar or Passport preferred).
4. JEE Main 2026 result printout.
5. 20 self-attested passport-size photographs on white background.
6. Domicile certificate, caste certificate (if applicable), NCC certificate (if held).
7. A clean, simple set of formal clothes for the personal interview. The SSB centre provides kit for GTO tasks.

• Apply early. Do not wait for the final week, the portal slows down on the last two days.
• Triple-check your JEE Main 2026 application number, roll number and CRL rank against the NTA scorecard.
• Start basic physical preparation: 2.4 km run under 11 minutes, 40 push-ups, 6 pull-ups. The Army does not have a formal PT test at SSB, but officer cadets are expected to walk in fit.
