How NIC selects through GATE
NIC uses your valid GATE score (from any of the last three years — 2024, 2025 or 2026) in Computer Science (CS), Electronics & Communication (EC), or Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DA). The board compiles a composite score = 60% normalised GATE + 40% interview. Final merit and post allocation (Scientist-B vs STA, location) depend on the composite score and your preferences.
What does Scientist-B do at NIC?
NIC builds and runs the digital backbone of the Government of India — DigiLocker, eOffice, eCourts, Parivahan, the COVID portal and most ministry IT platforms. A Scientist-B works on application design, architecture, security and operations for these systems. STAs assist with development, testing, deployment, network operations and helpdesk. Both are Group-A/B central government technical posts.
Eligibility (summary)
For both posts you need a BE/B.Tech (or higher) in Computer Science / IT / Electronics & Communication / equivalent (or an MCA / M.Sc with the right specialisation, per the official advt) along with a valid GATE 2024/25/26 score in CS, EC or DA.
