What is the difference between the city slip and the admit card?

The City Intimation Slip (around 10 June) only tells you the city of your exam centre, so you can plan travel — it does not have the centre address or shift timing. The Admit Card (around 15 June) carries the full centre address, exam date, shift and reporting time and is mandatory to enter the exam. Don't confuse the two; you need the admit card on exam day.

UGC NET 2026 Exam Pattern

UGC NET is a single 3-hour CBT with two papers and no negative marking (+2 per correct answer):

Paper 1 (Teaching/Research Aptitude)50100
Paper 2 (Subject-specific)100200
Total150300

UGC NET 2026 Eligibility & Fee

Eligibility: a Master's degree with 55% (50% for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender); final-year PG candidates may apply provisionally. The JRF age limit is 30 years (as on 1 June 2026, with up to 5 years' relaxation); there is no age limit for Assistant Professor or PhD admission.

CategoryFee
General₹1,150
OBC-NCL / EWS₹600
SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender₹325

What does UGC NET qualify you for?

Based on your score, UGC NET gives one of three outcomes: JRF + Assistant Professor eligibility, Assistant Professor eligibility only, or PhD admission only. Assistant Professor eligibility is lifetime; the JRF award has a limited validity window to join an institution. An e-Certificate is issued on the NTA portal.

Practical Tips

  • Subject (Paper 2) is locked at the form stage — it should match your PG subject and usually can't be changed later.
  • JRF cut-off is higher than the Assistant-Professor-only cut-off — same paper, different qualifying thresholds, subject- and category-wise.
  • City slip ≠ admit card — the slip is only for travel planning.
  • Verify the admit card (name, subject code, shift) and carry a printout + valid photo ID; reach the centre early.
