How the Admit Card Stage Works

  1. CBT-1 (this stage) — Computer-Based Test of 100 MCQs / 100 marks / 90 minutes covering General Awareness (40), Mathematics (30) and General Intelligence & Reasoning (30). Conducted in 15 languages including Hindi, English and 13 regional languages. Negative marking 1/3 mark per wrong answer. Held across 3 shifts daily on 7-9 May and 13-21 June 2026.
  2. CBT-1 Normalisation — Because the exam runs across multiple shifts and dates with different question papers, RRB applies shift-wise normalisation to standardise scores. The normalised score (not raw score) decides shortlisting for CBT-2 on a 20-times-vacancy basis category-wise.
  3. CBT-2 (Mains) — 120 questions / 120 marks / 90 minutes — General Awareness (50), Mathematics (35), General Intelligence & Reasoning (35). Negative marking 1/3 mark per wrong answer. Higher difficulty level than CBT-1. Shortlisting for the next stage on 8-times-vacancy basis.
  4. Typing Skill Test (Junior Clerk + Accounts Clerk only) — Qualifying-only test. 30 wpm in English OR 25 wpm in Hindi on a computer keyboard. Test is qualifying — no marks added to merit; candidates only need to clear the speed floor to remain in selection.
  5. Document Verification + Medical Examination — Shortlisted candidates appear with originals — Class 10 / 12 marksheets, photo-ID, caste / EWS certificate if applicable, RRB-domicile if claimed, NOC for government employees. Medical fitness as per Indian Railways Medical Manual — category B-1 / B-2 for these UG NTPC posts.
  6. Final Merit List + Posting — Final merit purely on CBT-2 marks (CBT-1 is only a screening test, marks not carried forward). Selected candidates posted to one of 17 Indian Railways zones based on preference + RRB-wise allocation. Initial posting + training of 6-12 months before regular duty.

Negative marking: 1/3 mark (0.33) deducted for each wrong answer in both CBT-1 and CBT-2. Unattempted questions carry no penalty. Multiple options ticked on the same question count as a wrong answer.
