Age Limit: —–30 years as on For JRF: 30 years as on the first day of the application month (01 April 2026 typically). No age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility or PhD admission.

For JRF: SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD/Third Gender/Female candidates get 5 years relaxation. Research experience (subject to UGC norms) up to 5 years. LLM candidates 3 years. Defence service candidates per UGC rules.

Educational Qualification:

• Standard route: Master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% aggregate (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD/Third Gender) from a recognised university. Final-year Master's candidates can apply provisionally.
• 4-year UG route (NEP 2020): 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's degree with at least 75% aggregate (70% for reserved). Eligible for JRF + PhD direct entry per the UGC 2024 amendment.
• PhD route: Candidates with a PhD degree awarded as per the UGC PhD Regulations 2009 are exempt from minimum percentage at Master's level — eligible for Assistant Professor.

Nationality: Indian citizen. No nationality restriction for PhD admission route — confirm via the official notification.

Selection Process

1. Online Application — Apply at ugcnet.nta.ac.in between 29 April and 20 May 2026 (11:50 PM IST close). Upload photo, signature, category certificate where applicable.
2. Computer-Based Test (CBT) — Held between 22 and 30 June 2026 at NTA centres. Two papers in a single 3-hour shift. Paper 1: 100 marks, 50 questions on Teaching + Research Aptitude. Paper 2: 200 marks, 100 questions on the chosen subject. Marking: +2 for each correct answer, no negative marking.
3. Provisional Answer Key + Objection Window — NTA publishes the provisional answer key on ugcnet.nta.ac.in. Candidates can raise objections with a per-question fee (refundable if accepted).
4. Result + Three Outcomes — NTA publishes the final result with three category flags per candidate: (a) Qualified for JRF + Assistant Professor + PhD admission, (b) Qualified for Assistant Professor + PhD admission, (c) Qualified for PhD admission only.
5. PhD Admission / JRF Award / Faculty Recruitment — JRF certificate valid for 3 years. Universities use UGC NET scores for PhD admission (per UGC 2024 amendment). Faculty recruitment uses Assistant Professor eligibility as a prerequisite.

Negative marking: No negative marking in UGC NET. +2 marks for each correct answer; 0 for unattempted or wrong.

2. Register with a valid email and mobile number to generate login credentials.
3. Fill the application form with personal, educational, and contact details exactly as on official documents.
4. Upload a recent passport-size photograph and signature in the prescribed format and size.

6. Review all entries carefully, then submit the form.
7. Download and print a copy of the submitted application for your records.

What UGC NET is

UGC NET is the National Eligibility Test conducted by the National Testing Agency on behalf of the University Grants Commission. It serves three purposes: awarding Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) with a monthly fellowship of ₹37,000 + HRA, certifying eligibility for Assistant Professor positions in universities and colleges, and granting eligibility for PhD admission per the UGC 2024 amendment. The exam is bilingual (English + Hindi) for all subjects except language subjects.

Who can apply

Standard route: Master\'s degree or equivalent with at least 55% (50% for reserved categories). Final-year Master\'s candidates can apply provisionally.

4-year UG route: Candidates with a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor\'s degree (NEP 2020) with at least 75% (70% reserved) are eligible for JRF and direct PhD admission.

Age: 30 years (as on 01 April 2026) for JRF, with standard relaxation. No age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility or PhD admission route.

How to apply

2. Click "UGC NET June 2026 — Online Application".
3. Register with name, DOB, email, and mobile number to generate the Application Number + Password.
4. Fill in personal details, educational qualifications, and subject choice. Pick a primary and a secondary exam centre.
5. Upload photo, signature, and category certificate where applicable.
6. Pay the application fee online (₹1,150 General; ₹600 EWS/OBC-NCL; ₹325 SC/ST/PwBD/Third Gender).
7. Submit and download a printout of the confirmation page.

Exam pattern

UGC NET has two papers in a single 3-hour shift. Paper 1 is common — 100 marks, 50 questions on Teaching Aptitude and Research Aptitude. Paper 2 is subject-specific — 200 marks, 100 questions on the chosen subject from the 87 NTA UGC NET subjects. Marking is +2 for each correct answer with no negative marking. The exam is computer-based (CBT) at NTA test centres.
