UP Polytechnic JEECUP 2026: Notification, Exam Date, Apply Online & Eligibility — Analysis & Trends
What is JEECUP and who should appear?
JEECUP — the Joint Entrance Examination Council Polytechnic test — is the single gateway to diploma admissions in over 1,300 government, government-aided and private polytechnic institutions affiliated to the Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh. The test is most useful for Class 10 pass candidates planning a 3-year diploma in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science or allied engineering streams, plus Class 12 candidates seeking direct second-year lateral entry, Pharmacy, Agriculture Engineering, Fashion Design or Modern Office Management diplomas.
JEECUP 2026 — what we know so far
As of 5 May 2026, the official 2026 cycle notification has not yet been released by JEECUP. Per the council's annual calendar, the bulletin typically appears in February–March, with the application window running through April and the computer-based test scheduled in May–June. The 2025 cycle saw approximately 2.4 lakh candidates register across the 14 groups, with Group A (Engineering Diploma) the largest by registration volume. Until the official bulletin drops, all dates on this page are marked tentative and updated within 24 hours of an official confirmation.
Exam pattern — 14 groups, single shift
JEECUP is conducted as a single-session computer-based test of 3 hours. Each candidate answers 100 multiple-choice questions specific to their chosen group. Group A covers Class 10 Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Group B adds Agriculture-specific content. Group F (Pharmacy) covers Class 12 Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics. Marking is +4 for a correct answer and -1 for an incorrect one — unattempted questions carry no penalty. The question paper is bilingual (Hindi and English) for all groups.
How to prepare in 90 days
Most candidates have a 3-month preparation window between the application close and the exam. Anchor your prep around NCERT Class 9 and 10 Mathematics and Science textbooks plus the official JEECUP previous-year papers archived in our previous papers hub. Mock-test discipline matters more than topic breadth — solve at least 15 full-length tests in the last 30 days, replicating the 3-hour single-shift format. Topic-wise weightage repeats heavily across cycles, so previous-year papers are the highest-ROI resource.
Counselling and seat allotment
Rank-card publication is followed by online counselling rounds. Candidates fill choice forms ranking their preferred branch + institution combinations. Allotment runs by All-India rank within category, with UP-domicile candidates getting state-quota priority in government seats. Round 1 allotment is followed by acceptance window, then Round 2 (sliding plus fresh allotment), then a spot round at participating institutions. Reporting at the allotted polytechnic with original documents confirms the seat.
Career pathways after JEECUP diploma
A 3-year diploma from a JEECUP-allotted polytechnic opens multiple pathways. Direct entry into diploma jobs via SSC JE, RRB JE and state JE recruitments. Lateral entry to the second year of B.Tech via UPTAC counselling. PSU Diploma Trainee intake at NTPC, BHEL, ONGC and others. State PWD JE postings in UP via UPSSSC. Salaries in the Pay Level 6 band (₹35,400 basic) for government diploma JE roles, with PSU CTC reaching ₹6–8 lakh per annum.
