FMGE Exam Pattern & Pass Mark
FMGE has 300 multiple-choice questions split across two sessions on the same day (typically a morning and an afternoon sitting of 150 questions each). To pass, you need at least 150 out of 300 marks — an absolute 50%. Unlike NEET PG, this is not a percentile; there is no relative ranking — every candidate who scores 50% or more clears the screening.
Who needs to take FMGE?
FMGE is mandatory for Indian citizens (and OCIs) who completed their primary medical qualification (MBBS-equivalent) outside India and want to practise here. Clearing FMGE allows you to obtain provisional or permanent registration with the NMC or a State Medical Council, after which you can complete internship and practise. Candidates who took the National Exit Test route follow separate rules — check your eligibility certificate.
