The marking is simple once you have your correct and incorrect counts from the answer key:

Estimated score = (number correct × 1) − (number wrong × 0.33). For example, 110 correct and 40 wrong gives 110 − 13.2 ≈ 96.8 marks. Because of the one-third penalty, blind guessing hurts — but an educated guess between two close options is usually still worth it. What happens after the answer key

After the official answer key (and any objection window), WBPSC declares the Prelims result — the list qualifying for the Mains examination. The Mains is descriptive and far more decisive, followed by the Personality Test (interview) for the final merit.
